The light at the end of the tunnel…

It’s been a long while since I’ve written in this. A lot has happened in the few months I’ve been absent.

After almost 6 months of whining on here about my job hunt, I finally landed a pretty sweet gig! I accepted a position as an Account Manager for a small start-up company called VS Networks. Here’s the kicker, it’s in Chicago! Yes, my small-town self moved 6 hours to Chicago! To be honest, I hadn’t ever even been to Chicago until I came looking for an apartment. I always have wanted to move out of Ohio, but I never thought it would be to a city! There was a lot to get used to at first, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it and trying to make the best of my experience here.

I’ve been living in the city for about 3-4 months and I’ve come to realize you need 3 things to look like a regular:

-Earbuds connected to your iphone

-skinny jeans/leggings with tall riding boots

-starbucks in hand

I’ve also noticed a couple of other differences between Ohio and Chicago.

Obviously, there are a ton of differences between a small town and a big city, but below are the major ones:

There’s active people EVERYWHERE. Seriously, no matter the weather there’s ALWAYS people running. Even on a complete sheet of ice 1/2″ thick, someone was running on it! I first thought it would be a great motivator, but it just depresses me instead haha

People are always in a hurry. i.e. escalators, people don’t just stand on them and enjoy the ride, they walk up/down them!

Crazy mom drivers. Seriously, moms trying to cut everyone off, flipping the bird and screaming, while their children are in the car!

You’ve got to learn to be open-minded. I’ve learned that in order to truly immerse yourself in the opportunity here, you have to put yourself out there and be open to learning about others. I even tried calamari and other crazy food I never in a million years would have tried!

This has been a great experience and I’m so glad I was given this opportunity and I’m so happy with where I am today. Sure, there have been many struggles but I’m learning to roll with the punches and loving life.
